4x5 inch Sinar F

Sinar 50:50

After building a number of photographic works which used a mirror In order to make a self portrait of a camera, a more pure yet elaborate method was devised for a camera to create an auto-portrait without the use of a mirror. A Sinar 5×4 inch plate camera was carefully cut in half using a diamond blade band saw, the lens was perfectly cut in half yet still functioned (detail image below). The bellows were sealed using black card on each half. One half of the camera is placed upside down in order to create the perfectly symmetrical auto-portrait where one camera half photographs the other half simultaneously. The two separate colour negative half’s were processed and then assembled together and shown at the foot of the page.
