Non (camera) London 2006

Non (camera)

Non is an experimental thought exercise consisting of a 35mm camera that has been Modified with the lens focused back into itself by using four oval mirrors held within a welded steel tube. The focal point of the camera is now the actual film plane, the point where the camera would normally focus and record the exterior image onto the film. The modification allows the viewers ‘mind’ to contemplate the idea of the camera being able to study itself with the absence of light, as it would not be possible to illuminate the interior space due to it exposing the film (or fogging) and ruining the image. In this way the thought experiment is the perfect antidote to the obsessive desire to photograph everything.
